We are pleased to announce that Eric Denna has joined The RBL Group as Chief Operating Officer. Eric joins RBL during a period of intense growth and will be responsible for managing the development and distribution of products, assisting in the expansion of the RBL Institute, as well as supervising our administrative functions.

Eric has previously served as Chief Information Officer for Times Mirror Corporation, for Brigham Young University, and for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has worked for Ernst & Young, Price Waterhouse, and Coopers & Lybrand. Additionally, he is an advisor to Workday, FlatworldKnowledge, and Proton Communications and has been a research associate with The Research Board (www.researchboard.com), the premier international think tank for CIOs of large organizations.

Eric taught information systems at BYU's Marriot School of Management, and has written five books and numerous scholarly and professional articles on the design and strategic use of information technology.

Eric received a doctorate degree in Information Systems from Michigan State University, a master's degree in Information Systems from BYU, and a bachelor's degree in accounting from BYU. He lives in Orem, Utah with his wife and seven children.

No one disputes that leadership matters. We recognize good leadership firsthand when a leader we admire inspires, excites, engages, or even leaves us. Beyond our personal awareness, research has shown that the quality of leadership helps meet the expectations of investors, customers, and employees. While we can stipulate that leadership matters and that we know it when we encounter it, it is much more difficult to find the elusive answer to the simple question, "What makes an effective leader?"

In their forthcoming book Leadership Code, Dave Ulrich, Norm Smallwood, and Kate Sweetman, attempt to answer that question. In a brief and clear way, the authors synthesize existing scholarly and applied research on leadership to identify the essential rules that govern what all great leaders do.
